Once again Dan John comes through with a perfectly succinct definition. A hinge is a maximal hip bend coupled with a minimal knee bend. That means the knees do bend, but just enough to facilitate the primary movement of the hips. Hinges include Deadlifts, Good Mornings and Kettlebells Swings.
