Welcome to the New Gym!

Welcome to the new home of Agoge Fitness Systems, rebranded as Alabama Sasquatch.

Not one of us managed COVID and the pandemic without being changed in some way. I am no different. As lockdowns took hold and we sequestered away in our homes, doing our best to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy, I learned a few vital things that have radically changed the way I see my work.

1. I REALLY, REALLY like my home. Honestly, I love everything about it. I love my wife. I love my kids. I love my dogs. I love my house. I love the land we live on and the land and people that surround us. I enjoyed the time that quarantine gave me to really connect with these things. Knowing that eventually life would return to some form of normalcy, I realized I didn't want to give them up.

2. The vast majority of my clients stopped training during quarantine. I tried my best to keep them engaged. I offered online classes and I held classes outdoors, but engagement was low. I realized I was failing in my primary effort which was to educate and help my clients develop their own love for movement. What I had been doing was not working the way I wanted it to. I needed to change my approach.

This led to a plan that ended up taking over a year to complete. I took money out of my house and put up a building on the back side of my property. I moved my gym home. What was Agoge Fitness Systems is now Alabama Sasquatch. My new gym now sits in my back yard and I couldn't be happier.

With the new gym I can really get in deep with my clients. My overhead is super low and now that the pressure of "making rent" is off I can worry less about how the gym is doing and focus my attention where it should have been all along - on how my clients are doing.

Everyone is different. Sure we're all made of the same stuff and our bodies move in the same ways but inside of those similarities are huge ranges of variation. Those variations need to be taken into account. Goals, injuries (healed and not so much), motivations, and desires all vary wildly and an individualized approach is what's needed to really make an impact. That's what Alabama Sasquatch is about. Making an impact, helping people navigate the changes they want to see in their lives and build the life they want to live.

Now I understand that not every can or even wants to come train in my backyard (although, you really should give it a try, it's frickin' awesome). And that's what this site is for. Here I can share training advice, updates on what we're doing, and even provide online training programs that you can follow from the comfort of your own home or gym or home gym!

I look forward to interacting with you, so speak up, chime in, send me emails and messages, ask questions, let me know what you like and what you'd like to see. But most of all, welcome! I'm glad to have you here.
